Johannes K. Engel

Johannes K. Engel (born April 29, 1927 in Berlin ; † January 4, 2018 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist .

Life

Engel had worked as a newspaper journalist for Spiegel magazine since 1947 , first as a correspondent in Frankfurt . From 1962 to 1968 he was editor-in-chief of Spiegel together with Claus Jacobi . They were followed from 1962 to 1963 by Leo Brawand as editor-in-chief ( Spiegel affair ). Since 1969, Engel was again editor-in-chief of Spiegel and shared this position with Günter Gaus . From 1973 he shared the position of editor-in-chief with Erich Böhme , from 1986 also with Werner Funk , until 1987.
