Johannes Karl Gotthard Niedlich (born March 4, 1949 in Lunow , Barnim district ; † April 24, 2014 ) was a German graphic artist and book designer .

Life

Johannes KG Niedlich was born as the second child of a Protestant pastor. After graduating from high school with skilled worker training in 1968, he began studying chemistry. He broke this off in 1970. He then studied theology at the Language Convict of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg until 1976 . He then worked as a gardener until 1978. From 1978 onwards, through the mediation of his mentor Lothar Reher , he received his first orders for book illustrations and was able to work as a freelance artist until his death in 2014. In addition to his artistic work, he was also involved in local politics in Altlandsberg for almost 20 years from 1991 .

Works

From 1978 to 1993, Niedlich illustrated more than 70 book titles. He won seven "Most Beautiful Books" from the GDR and the FRG , a bronze medal "Most Beautiful Books in the World" in 1984 and the bronze medal at the International Book Art Exhibition in 1989 . From 1993 onwards he mainly did freelance work.

He designed the fountain on the market square in Altlandsberg .
