Lothar Reher

Lothar Reher (born June 29, 1932 in Marienburg / West Prussia ; † April 6, 2018 in Berlin ) was a German graphic artist , photographer and book designer .

Lothar Reher came to Berlin with his family before 1939 , left school at the age of 14 and began an apprenticeship as a commercial typesetter , which he completed as a master craftsman. Inspired by the work of Klaus Wittkugel , Reher started at the Volk und Welt publishing house in East Berlin as an "auxiliary manufacturer" and developed from an artistic consultant to the artistic director of this publishing house, which he was from 1964 to 1979. In particular , he designed the covers himself for the spectrum of paperbacks published from 1968 onwards . In the 1980s, he revised the appearance of the universal library for the Leipzig publishing house Reclam .

Since 1986 Lothar Reher was a member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR . In 1988 he received the Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig .
