Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig

The Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig has been awarded by the City of Leipzig since 1959 . In memory of Johannes Gutenberg, it is intended to honor personalities or institutions who “have made outstanding contributions to the art of book through excellent, exemplary achievements” (statutes). The award stands in the tradition of Leipzig as a historical center for print quality and book art care.

Those honored with this award have set standards with their artistic, technical or scientific achievements, especially in the areas of typography , book illustration , book art editions and book production . It has been awarded annually since 1993, alternating with the Gutenberg Prize of the City of Mainz and the International Gutenberg Society and is endowed with 10,000 euros.
