Wolf Erlbruch
Wolf Erlbruch (born June 30, 1948 in Wuppertal ) is a postmodern illustrator and children's book author.
Life
Wolf Erlbruch studied from 1967 to 1974 with a focus on drawing at the Folkwang Hochschule für Gestaltung in Essen and has been internationally successful as an illustrator in the advertising industry since 1974. Erlbruch taught from 1990 to 1997 as a professor of illustration at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences , from 1997 to 2009 as a professor in the department of architecture-design-art at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and from 2009 to 2011 as professor for illustration at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen .
Erlbruch now lives with his family in Wuppertal.
Artistic creation
In the 1980s Erlbruch began to illustrate and later write children's books. His first book was published in 1985: The Eagle That Didn't Want to Fly . His works cover such big topics as the story of creation (In the Beginning) or the meaning of life ( The Big Question ) , death ( duck, death and tulip ), but also the simple story of the little mole who wanted to know who gave him upside down . All sorts of animals gather in Erlbruch's books - in a picture-perfect way - but he designs them in a bizarre, expressive way that makes the books aesthetically appealing to adults too. In 2007 he designed his first theater set with stage design and costumes for a dramatization of Max Kruse's Urmel from the ice for the Wuppertal theaters .
