Uwe Loesch

Uwe Loesch (born January 23, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German graphic designer and university professor. He is considered one of the leading international poster artists .

Live and act

Loesch has lived in Düsseldorf since 1958 and studied graphic design at the Peter-Behrens-Werkkunstschule (today Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences ). After completing his studies, he began to work as a freelance graphic designer and had his own studio in Düsseldorf. Among his regular clients were the Kom (m) ödchen in Düsseldorf and the Klingspor Museum in Offenbach am Main . Since 1984, many of his works have been in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), New York.

In 1985 he became professor of design at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences; from 1990 he was professor for communication design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal as successor to Willy Fleckhaus. In addition to poster design, the focus of his work is on the conception, text and corporate design for appearances by clients from culture and business. In 2008 he finished his work as a lecturer at the Bergische Universität.

He has received numerous international awards. Loesch is a member of the AGI Alliance Graphique Internationale and the ADC Art Directors Club of Germany . He lives and works in Düsseldorf.

In 2009 he was awarded the Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig . In 2013 he received the renowned design award of the Federal Republic of Germany for his life's work .
