Johannes Kruse (Rector)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Kruse , also Cruse or Crispus (* in Bremen ; † after 1531) was a German theologian and rector of the University of Rostock .

Life

Johannes Kruse from Bremen enrolled in 1509 to study at the University of Rostock. He received his bachelor's degree in 1511 and his master's degree in 1512 . He worked as theological lecturer at the University of Rostock, in 1517 Regens of the bursa mediae lunae and in the winter semester of 1525/1526 rector of the university.

Johannes Kruse is said to have been a Carthusian and, together with Barthold Moller, was an ardent opponent of the Reformation in Rostock. In 1527 he published anti-reformatory theses. He belonged to a group of friends that Ulrich von Hutten accepted. Egbert Harlem and Johannes Hadeke , who mentioned him in his Camoenae , belonged to his circle of friends . The assignment to the Carthusian monastery is based on a woodcut printed in 1518 for the Marienehe Monastery , to which he added verses on St. Patriarch Bruno and St. Hugo , Bishop of Lincoln. When Barthold Moller died as rector in 1530, Johannes Kruse wrote the funeral sermon for him .

  1. So with Johannes Hadeke ; he is not to be confused with the Rostock preacher Johannes Crispinus (clergyman) , see Karl Ernst Hermann Krause:  Crispinus, Johannes . In: Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB). Volume 4, Duncker & Humblot, Leipzig 1876, p. 598.
  2. The birthplace of Tribsee is also mentioned , as is the case with Krause.
