Johannes Müller SJ (born February 17, 1943 in Regensburg ) is a German sociologist .

Life

After joining the Jesuit order in 1963, he studied philosophy , theology , sociology and economics . He obtained his diploma in theology in Yogyakarta in 1971 . From 1968 to 1981 worked mainly in Indonesia, u. a. in practical development work, studying theology and teaching at the Driyarkara School of Philosophy and at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta . After graduating as Dr. phil. in Munich on educational policy in Indonesia In 1976 he headed the Institute for Social Policy at the Jesuit University of Philosophy in Munich since 1986 . He had several longer study visits to the Philippines , especially from 1982 to 1983. Since 1988 he has regularly given lectures, seminars and lectures in Indonesia, especially at the Driyarkara Philosophical University in Jakarta and at the Catholic University of Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta. From 1996 to 2011 he taught as a professor for social sciences and development policy at the University of Philosophy of the Jesuits in Munich. From 2000 to 2005 he headed the research and study project of the Rottendorf Foundation at the University of Philosophy. Since 1992 he has been a member and since 2000 chairman of the scientific working group for universal church tasks of the World Church Commission of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK) and the responsible sub-commission; In this context he led several research projects, including on street children, on interreligious development cooperation and on new religious movements. From 1997 to 2001 he was chairman of the expert group on the world economy and social ethics , which is assigned to this working group. Since 2001 he has been advising Commission X World Church of the German Bishops' Conference. Since 1990 he has been working in various working groups of the German Justitia et Pax Commission , from 2005 to 2010 in the working group on Religions and Religious Freedom . He has been a member since 2005, since 2011 chairman of the Misereor Advisory Board and a member of the sub-commission for development issues (especially Misereor). Member of the Catholic Central Agency for Development Aid. Since 1994 he has been a member of the advisory board of the Jesuit Mission in Nuremberg . Since 2011 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for World Church and Mission. He is also a member of the Association for Asian Studies ( Ann Arbor ), the European Association for South-East Asian Studies ( Leiden ), the German Society for Asian Studies ( Hamburg ) and the Society for International Development.

His work focuses on the sustainable development model with regard to climate change and global poverty, population development as a multidimensional global challenge, the ethical and socio-cultural dimension of development policy and the diversity of cultures and religions in the global area of ​​conflict and dialogue.
