Johannes Meissl

Johannes Meissl (born August 11, 1961 ) is an Austrian violinist , chamber musician , conductor and university professor .

Life

Meissl studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) with Wolfgang Schneiderhan , Gerhart Hetzel and Hatto Beyerle . The completion of the course was with distinction and appreciation prize. Further studies were carried out with the LaSalle Quartet in the USA. Meissl has been a member of the Artis Quartet Vienna since 1982 , with whom he has appeared in concert halls and at festivals. He received the Grand Prix du Disque , Diapason d'or , German record award for recordings. Since 1988 he has participated in a concert cycle at the Wiener Musikverein . Johannes Meissl also gives concerts as a soloistand as part of various chamber music projects. He is professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, director of the Joseph Haydn Institute for chamber music and special ensembles, artistic director of the international summer academy (isa) of the mdw and - together with Hatto Beyerle - artistic director of the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) . In his artistic and educational activities he seeks connections to various areas of the performing arts , literature , cultural history , music analysis and philosophy . Johannes Meissl taught at summer academies and courses in chamber music. With young quartets, Johannes Meissl artistically produced recordings that received the ECHO Klassik . In the 2010s Johannes Meissl also devoted himself to conducting and performed with various orchestras in Austria, Japan, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania.
