Johannes Mitzel

Johannes Mitzel , also Johann Mitzel (born October 17, 1642 in Stralsund , † October 8, 1677 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Mitzel was enrolled on August 4, 1652 at the Pomeranian University of Greifswald, where he had also started his first studies. On June 26, 1660, he moved to the University of Helmstedt , where he mainly followed the lectures of Hermann Conring . In August 1666 he moved to the University of Rostock, where he continued his legal studies. In Rostock he was examined on September 12, 1667, had disputed de lectione et relatione actorum on October 8, and was awarded a doctorate in law on September 17.

He then traveled extensively and was court counsel in Königsberg. In 1670 he was given an extraordinary professorship at the law faculty of the University of Königsberg and in 1672 he was promoted to second full professor, making him assessor of the Samland consistory . He had also participated in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. In the summer semesters of 1673 and 1677 he was rector of the alma mater . His body was buried on October 15th in the professorial vault of the Königsberg Cathedral .

Mitzel had with Anna Dorothea, daughter of the court attorney and assessor at the Samland consistory Peter Weger (* December 4, 1601 - August 1674) and his wife Anna (* April 10, 1615 - August 31, 1687), the daughter of the councilor the old town of Königsberg Christoph Grube, married. Children grew out of marriage. The son Georg Theodor Mitzel (~ June 6, 1670) and the daughter Gertrud Dorothea Mitzel (* 1673; † March 27, 1674) are known.
