Johannes Nicolaus Buek

Johannes Nicolaus Buek (* 1779 in Hamburg ; † January 31, 1856 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a pharmacist and botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " JNBuek bis ".

Johann Nicolaus was the son of the Hamburg commercial gardener and botanist Johann Nikolaus Buek (1736–1812). His brother became an imperial court gardener in Saint Petersburg .

Buek came to Frankfurt an der Oder in 1807 and was initially a pharmacist in the Adler pharmacy on the market. In 1808 he married the daughter of the owner of the Löwen pharmacy in Grosse Oderstrasse. After the death of his father-in-law in 1814, Buek took over the pharmacy and ran it until 1827.

Buek became known as a botanist. He dealt intensively with the local flora, studied the writings of older Frankfurt botanists and was in contact with the most famous botanists of his time. In 1837 he became a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt . He laid out his own botanical garden, which was larger than that of the Brandenburg University in Frankfurt .

At installation of Lennépark Frankfurt (Oder) Buek was to implement the planting plan by Peter Joseph Lenne responsible. He procured plants from the Frankfurt city forests and from the Royal State Tree School in Potsdam.

His name was mentioned on the creator's monument in the park for his part in the establishment of the Bürgerpark.
