Johannes Sussemann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Süssemann , also Süssmann (* around 1700 ; † after 1766 probably in Hildesheim ) was a Hildesheim carver of the Baroque and Rococo periods . He created statues and altars for various churches in the region.

Life

Sussemann lived in Hildesheimer Neustadt and is mentioned in the church records of the St. Godehard parish between 1746 and 1766 . He married Eva Maria Meyer in 1744 , after her death in 1749 Adolphina Stolten and, after she also died, in 1766 Maria Franziska Bleibgetreu . In 1747 the son Johann Josef was born , in 1750 the son Joachim Ludwig . For Johann Heinrich Süssmann , apparently a younger relative, he was the best man in 1754 and 1759 .

Sussemann's style is close to that of Ernst Dietrich Bartels . Some of the works ascribed to Bartels may have been entirely or partially by Sussemann.

The attribution is often uncertain. Important evidence is provided by a collection of sketches that came from Süßemann's estate to the Bibliotheca Beverina .

Friedrich Bleibaum accepts Süßemann's authorship for:
