Johannes Schmid (politician, 1758)

Johannes Schmid (* 19th November 1758 in Urnäsch ; † 10. April 1822 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Urnäsch) was a Governor and Landammann from the Swiss canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Schmid was the son of Johann Konrad Schmid, farmer and mayor , and Barbara Langenegger. Schmid married Anna Nabulon in 1778, daughter of Johannes Nabulon, mayor. In 1785 he married Anna Elisabeth Diem, daughter of Hans Konrad Diem, councilor.

Schmid worked as a farmer and host . From 1780 to 1793 he served as councilor, then from 1793 to 1796 as governor of Urnäsch. He was governor from 1796 to 1798. In 1797 Schmid was a member of the revision commission of the Ausserhoder Landbuch . Schmid was president of the Urnäsch municipality from 1798 to 1803 . From 1799 he was Landammann of the interim government and from 1802 to 1822 again Ausserrhoder Landammann. During the Helvetic Republic , Schmid was an opponent of any foreign interference in the affairs of Ausserrhoden.
