Johannes Schmidt (clergyman)

Johannes Schmidt (born February 21, 1931 in Jahrsdorf ) is a clergyman , cathedral chapter and Caritas director .

Life

On June 29, 1957, Schmidt was ordained a priest in Eichstätt. After that he was a cooperator in Roßtal and Treuchtlingen . In 1960 he became prefect in the Canisiuskonvikt in Ingolstadt and from 1962 he was a cooperator in Allersberg . In 1967 he became pastor in St. Marien in Nuremberg-Katzwang. On June 1, 1986, Bishop Karl Braun appointed him Caritas Director in the diocese of Eichstätt . At the same time, the cathedral chapter elected him one of its members. He was a member of the Central Council of the German Caritas Association, chairman of the Caritas Membership Committee (1990–1996). In 2001 Willibald Harrer became his successor. Until 2004 he was also a judge at the diocesan court.

For his services, Schmidt received the silver bread plate of the German Caritas Association and in 2007 the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon.

Since 2004 he has been a pastoral care worker in Greding.
