Johannes Sichard
Johannes Sichard (also Sichardt , Latinized Sichardus ), (* 1499 in Tauberbischofsheim ; † September 9, 1552 in Tübingen ) was a humanist and legal scholar.
Life
After attending school in Erfurt, he was enrolled in 1514 and obtained his master's degree in 1518 . Then he was a teacher in Munich at a schola poetica . In 1521 he went to the University of Freiburg , where he unsuccessfully sought a professorship in rhetoric. He received this in 1525 on the recommendation of his friend, Professor Ulrich Zasius in Basel. In 1527 he went on a research trip to Rhenish monasteries and cathedral monasteries. He published the yield in quick succession:
- 1528 the Breviarium Alaricianum or Lex Romana Visigothorum ,
- 1530 the "Leges Riboariorum Baioarumque, quas vocant a Theodorico, rege Francorum latae, item Alemannorum leges, a Lothario rege late etc. etc.".
In 1530 he went back to Freiburg to study law with his sponsor Zasius .
On November 28, 1531 he was born with his housemate and later biographer Johann Fichard from Frankfurt a. M. PhD. In the summer of 1535 he was appointed to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he taught until his death in 1552. He held the rectorate and dean's office several times. He was the Duke of Württemberg's most influential lawyer at this time. In 1551 he was at the Augsburg Reichstag and helped draft the Württemberg state law from 1555.
