Johannes Streubel

Johannes Streubel (born January 17, 1921 in Erdmannsdorf ; † February 22, 1990 ) was a German rear admiral in the People's Navy .

Military career

The son of a miller learned the job of a company electrician after attending eight years of school from 1935 to 1939 and then joined the Reich Labor Service (RAD). During the Second World War he served in the Navy , where he last held the rank of ensign at sea . At the end of the war, Streubel was taken prisoner by the Soviets , from which he was released in the same year.

He was then unemployed until 1946. In that year he joined the KPD or, after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED , the SED . From 1946 to 1947, Streubel initially worked as a new teacher at the vocational school in Flöha . In 1947, however, he was already promoted to head of the cultural office in the district council in Flöha. Streubel held this post until 1950. On February 10, 1950 he joined the armed organs of the GDR ( German People's Police ) and was employed there until 1952 as an instructor in the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) . Streubel then worked there until 1953 as head of the coordination and control department in Berlin . Subsequently, from 1953 to 1955, he again exercised the function of an instructor in the security department of the Central Committee of the SED . In 1956 he was delegated to a naval war academy in the USSR . In 1957 Streubel returned to the GDR and worked in his previous position until 1959. From 1959 to 1961 he was chief of the 4th flotilla . From 1962 to 1964 Streubel acted as deputy chief of staff for operational tasks in the command of the People's Navy, where he was appointed rear admiral on May 1, 1964. In this rank, Streubel held the position of deputy chief of the People's Navy until 1971 and was also chief of staff in the command of the People's Navy. From 1972 until his release on December 1, 1981, Streubel was director of the Army Museum in Dresden .
