Johannes Woods

Johannes Wälder (born December 31, 1933 in Flamersheim ) is a German insurance scientist and university professor.

Life

Johannes Wälder grew up in Flamersheim and attended elementary school there. He then attended grammar school in Euskirchen , where he also passed the school leaving examination. From 1954 to 1956, Wälder completed an apprenticeship at Gothaer Insurance in Cologne . This was followed by positions as a claims handler and at an insurance company in Switzerland. From 1958 to 1961, Wälder studied economics at the University of Cologne . He then worked as an assistant to the board of Roland legal protection insurance. In 1964, Wälder returned to Cologne University as a research assistant, where he also received his doctorate on the nature of insurance in 1969 . As early as 1967, Wälder had switched to the German Insurance Academy as a full-time lecturer, which was transferred to the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in 1971 . To this day, Wälder represents the field of "property and business interruption insurance" at the Institute for Insurance. He also acts as an arbitrator in arbitration proceedings .

Forests “fascinates”, according to his colleague Peter Schimikowski , the regulation of damage. He worked as an expert on a large number of major losses. For his 75th birthday, Wälder, who is considered the pope of fire insurance because of his “outstanding technical competence” , was honored with a commemorative publication .

Magazine "right and harm"

Since it was founded - albeit with an interruption of several years - Johannes Wälder has been involved in the editorial management of the insurance and claims law specialist journal “ rechts und schaden” , which was founded in 1974 . From 1986 he was spokesman for the editorial board. In August 2014, Wälder left the editorial team. In the magazine published by the CH Beck publishing house since 2005 , Wälder has published a large number of comments on court decisions and numerous articles.

Private

Wälder was married to his wife Ingrid from 1962 until her death. He has three children.
