Flamersheim is a district of Euskirchen in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The district is located in the southeast of Euskirchen, surrounded by the districts of Niederkastenholz , Palmersheim , Schweinheim and Kirchheim . The Flämmerbach flows through Flamersheim. There is a connection to the road network via the state roads L 11 , 119 and 210 . The "Flamersheimer Wald" begins further south, one of the largest closed forests in Germany, in which the Steinbachtalsperre is also located.

history

The place name Flamersheim is interpreted as Flavomaresheim - the home of the Franconian settler Flavomar. The place is first mentioned in a document in the chronicle of Abbot Regino of Prüm Abbey in 870 as villa regia nomine Flamersheim , i.e. as the royal estate of Flamersheim. Today's place was built next to the estate in 881.

Many archaeological finds show that the Romans also settled here. A native of Flamersheim shell of Samian ware preserves the Rheinische Landesmuseum in Bonn on.

Catholic Church of St. Stephen

The oldest part of the Catholic Church , which is consecrated to St. Stephen , was built around 1100. After the old choir was demolished, a transept and a new choir in neo-Romanesque forms were added to the nave in 1887 according to plans by August Carl Lange . In 1890 the church was consecrated .

In 1358 a Flamersheim castle is mentioned for the first time. As a Jülich fief , it came to different families one after another. In the 200 years between 1564 and 1774 the castle became a base of Protestant teaching, for which a Protestant church was built on the market in 1775/76.

The oldest evidence of the existence of the Protestant community in Flamersheim, the oldest in the Euskirchener Land, is provided by a document from 1641. In 1964, the church was expanded with the addition of a community hall and the rich baroque furnishings were restored.

The Flamersheim Witch Protocol from 1629/1630 is an important source for the history of the witch hunts in the northern Eifel. The lost manuscript was found in 2014.

On July 1, 1969, Flamersheim was incorporated into Euskirchen .

Infrastructure

Retail and location structure

There are numerous shops and companies in central locations such as around the market square and at the western entrance to the town. Restaurants, doctors, bakers and other facilities are also available as well as the two full-range retailers Norma and Edeka , which were built around 2012 and have meanwhile developed into an important center of the village as well as a shopping location for the surrounding area. A petrol station and car dealer as well as other businesses in the west complete the supply offer. Flamersheim has two kindergartens and a primary school. In the northeast there is a sports field and a tennis facility.

New development areas

Flamersheim has seen a large increase in the number of new building areas in recent years . Around the years 2011/2012, the place in the south was expanded by the new Eifelblick building area with more than 70 houses. Since 2015, another new development area has been growing in the northeast with the name Auf den Vierzig .

In 2016, construction work began on the old Christian Schaefer leather factory to convert it into the project called Campus Flamersheim . The building had been derelict and in a shabby condition since the 1990s. The investors are planning to preserve the basic substance and the “charm” of the old building, but to modernize it completely. The demolition work began in the same year. Use with apartments in the form of a penthouse and shops, practice and office space is sought. A highlight is the rental of parking spaces and the display of vintage cars in the old paddock . At the end of 2017, the three new multi-family houses in front of the old building were completed and in spring 2018 the first shops such as a beverage market, florist and an event agency moved in.

Broadband expansion

Flamersheim has its own exchange , which also ensures the Internet supply for the surrounding villages. The new development area Auf den Vierzig was connected with FTTH due to its convenient location in the immediate vicinity , as was the Flamersheim campus. In 2017, parts of the town were supplied with VDSL2 vectoring technology by the Bonn-based telecommunications company bn: t Blatzheim Networks Telecom GmbH through the construction of multifunctional housings .

Street names

The streets in Flamersheim are named after bird species , one example is the Sperberstraße.

Worth seeing

The castle of the same name from the 14th century is located in Flamersheim and Ringsheim Castle is to the east. The Flamersheim Fire Brigade Museum has existed since 1993.

The general store, which has existed for more than 60 years - as if it was from the old days - the Käthe Steinwarz is a rarity well worth seeing.
