Kessenich is a district in the north of Euskirchen . The former villages of Kessenich, Disternich and Rüdesheim founded the city of Euskirchen together and are therefore the oldest parts of the city. City rights were granted in 1302 . On the part of the city of Euskirchen, Kessenich is no longer run as a separate district, but only as a district.
Kessenich is a very old place. First mentions go back to Roman times , when Kessenich was a messenger riding stable of the Romans. Here the horses of the Roman messengers were exchanged when they were passing through from the Eifel z. B. were to Cologne . Ruins of Roman buildings were discovered during construction work on two apartment buildings on Kessenicher Strasse at the corner of Lindenhofstrasse.
Kessenich Castle , the Bartelshof Manor and the Friedrichsruh Manor are located in Kessenich . The Erft flows east of Kessenich .
