Johannes Wichelhaus (born January 13, 1819 in Mettmann ; † February 14, 1858 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Protestant theologian .

Life

Johannes Wichelhaus studied in Bonn, Berlin and Halle and was awarded a PhD with a dissertation on the Septuagint ( De Jeremiae versionis graecae Alexandrinae indole atque auctoritate ). theol. PhD. In 1854 he was appointed professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg , based in Halle. He devoted himself in particular to research into the Peschitta , the translation of the Bible into Syriac ( De Novi Testamenti versione Syriaca, quam Peschitho vocant , Halle 1850). Wichelhaus was in close contact with Hermann Friedrich Kohlbrügge and Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg . Eduard Böhl and Adolf Zahn , among others, studied with him .
