Johannes Zachariae
Johannes Zachariae (* before 1384 ; † July 26, 1428 in Erfurt ) was an Augustinian hermit , theologian at the University of Erfurt and preacher at the Council of Constance . He wrote numerous commentaries on church issues and advocated unity and reform of the church of his time.
From his main work Expositio in Apocalypsim (Explanation of the Revelation of John ), on which he worked for ten years, only the explanations of the first 11 chapters in the Trier City Library have survived. The explanations of the other chapters, which are also verifiably written, are considered lost. Theologians such as Johannes Schiphower or Martin Luther attributed a significant contribution to the condemnation of Jan Hus to Zachariae , but this is doubted by modern historical research.
Zachariae was buried in the Augustinian Church in Erfurt , in which an epitaph in front of the main altar still reminds of him today .
