John Alfred Valentine Butler
John Alfred Valentine Butler (born February 14, 1899 in Winchcombe , Gloucestershire , England , † July 16, 1977 ) was a British chemist specializing in physical chemistry .
He played a key role in developing thermodynamic electrochemistry , which dominated the first half of the 20th century , into kinetic electrochemistry . The Butler-Volmer equation was named after him and Max Volmer . He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1956 .
