John Anderson (trumpeter)

John Anderson (* 31 January 1921 in Birmingham (Alabama) ; † 18th August 1974 ) was an American trumpeter of Swing .

Live and act

Anderson studied alto horn and tuba at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and Westlake College of Music . In 1941 he played in Los Angeles with Tiny Bradshaw , four years in a US Navy band and between 1946 and 1957 with Benny Carter , Stan Kenton , Pérez Prado and Earl Bostic . After that, Anderson worked mainly as a freelance musician. He later had his own formation in Los Angeles with Buddy Collette , Curtis Counce and Britt Woodman . He also arranged for Buddy Collette.

As a session musician, he has been involved in numerous West Coast jazz and rhythm and blues recordings. 1959 Anderson became a member of the Count Basie Band; in the early 1960s he recorded with swing clarinetist Jimmy Hamilton and singer Anita O'Day . In the 1970s he was still involved in a big band project by Doc Severinsen . His only album under his own name was released in 1966 under the title Time Will Tell on the Tangerine label.

In addition to jazz, he also took part as a sideman on many rhythm and blues recordings on the west coast in the 1950s and 1960s, recording with Rick Nelson , Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sam Cooke .
