John Hubert de la Poer Beresford, 8th Marquess of Waterford (born July 14, 1933 , † February 11, 2015 at Curraghmore House, Portlaw , Waterford ) was an Irish peer and politician . Until 1999 he was a member of the House of Lords .

life and career

He was the eldest son of John Beresford, 7th Marquess of Waterford (1901-1934) and his wife Juliet Mary Lindsay (1904-1987). When his father died, he inherited his title of nobility.

He attended Eton College and later served as a lieutenant in the Royal Horse Guards Supplementary Reserve .

In 1957 he married Lady Caroline Olein Geraldine Wyndham-Quin, daughter of Richard Wyndham-Quin, 6th Earl of Dunraven , with whom he had four children:

He owned family estates in Curraghmore , Portlaw, County Waterford and Glenbridge Lodge , Valleymount , County Wicklow . He was a member of the White's Club .

After his death, his eldest son Henry inherited all titles.

Membership in the House of Lords

With his subordinate title Baron Tyrone , of Haverfordwest in the County of Pembroke, in the Peerage of Great Britain a hereditary seat in the House of Lords was connected. He lost his seat in Parliament under the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for one of the remaining seats.

He was not a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association . He was not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election.
