John Bernard Fitzpatrick

John Bernard Fitzpatrick (born November 15, 1812 in Boston , USA ; † February 13, 1866 there ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Boston .

Life

John Bernard Fitzpatrick received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Boston on June 13, 1840 .

After only three years as a priest, Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . on November 21, 1843 Titular Bishop of Callipolis and Coadjutor Bishop of Boston. The Bishop of Boston, Benedict Joseph Fenwick SJ , ordained him episcopal on March 24 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Richmond , Richard Vincent Whelan , and the Bishop of Hartford , William Barber Tyler .

In 1862 Fitzpatrick was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

With the death of Benedict Joseph Fenwick on August 11, 1846 he followed this as Bishop of Boston.
