John Joseph Williams (born April 27, 1822 in Boston , USA ; † August 30, 1907 there ) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston .

Life

John Joseph Williams received on May 17, 1845 sacrament of Holy Orders . Williams became a curate at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. From 1855 to 1857 he was rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. In 1857 John Joseph Williams became Vicar General of the Diocese of Boston.

On January 9, 1866, Pope Pius IX appointed him . the titular bishop of Tripoli in Phenicia and ordered him to Coadjutor Bishop of Boston. John Joseph Williams became Bishop of Boston on February 13, 1866, succeeding the late John Bernard Fitzpatrick . The Archbishop of New York , John McCloskey , donated him episcopal ordination on March 11 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Albany , John Joseph Conroy , and the Bishop of Brooklyn , John Loughlin .

On February 12, 1875, John Joseph Williams became Archbishop of Boston.
