John Brandl

John Edward Brandl (born August 19, 1937 , † August 18, 2008 in Minnetrista , Minnesota ) was an American politician and political scientist.

life and career

Brandl studied economics at St. John's University in Minnesota. In 1959 he received his Bachelor of Arts ( cum laude ). He then went on to study at Harvard University , where he received his Master of Arts in 1962 and his Ph. D. Brandl a year later , now embarked on an academic career at the University of Minnesota and was Associate Professor from 1969 to 1970 , then from 1970 to 1977 professor at the University's School of Public Affairs and finally from 1977 until his death professor at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs , of which he was dean from 1997 to 2002.

In addition to his academic career, Brandl was also active in politics. From 1977 to 1978 and from 1981 to 1986 he was a Democrat in the House of Representatives in Minnesota and from 1987 to 1990 in the Senate there. He died of stomach cancer in August 2008 at his son's home in Minnetrista .

Brandl was married and had three children, a son and two daughters.
