John Charles Broadhurst (born July 20, 1942 in Hendon , Middlesex , United Kingdom ) is a former Bishop of the Church of England and a priest of the Roman Catholic Church since 2011 . He was Bishop of Fulham in the Diocese of London from 1996 to 2010.

Life

As a child, John Broadhurst was baptized a Catholic. He went to school at Owens School in Islington. He received his theological training as an Anglican seminarist at King's College London and at St. Boniface College in the Warminster Congregation . In 1966 he became a deacon and a year later he was ordained a priest.

Broadhurst began his ministry in St Michael-at-Bowes Parish from 1966 to 1970. 1970 to 1975 he was Vicar at St. Augustine's Wembley Park, then Dean until 1966 in the London parish Wood Green . In 1972 he was elected the youngest member to date to the General Synod of the Church of England , a position he held until 1996. On September 24, 1996, he was ordained as the so-called "flying bishop" Bishop of Fulham. There he took over the pastoral care of those parishes that had objected to the ordination of women .

Conversion to the Catholic Church

John Broadhurst converted from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic Church on January 1, 2011 with Andrew Burnham and Keith Newton and their wives . On January 13, 2011 he was ordained deacon by Alan Stephen Hopes , Auxiliary Bishop in Westminster . On January 15, 2011 he was ordained a Catholic priest in Westminster Cathedral by the Primate of England and Wales and Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Gerard Nichols for the purpose of Pope Benedict XVI. Established Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham . On March 17, 2011 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Honorary Prelate of His Holiness .

In 1965, Broadhurst married his childhood sweetheart, Judith. He and his wife have four children: Jane, Markus, Sarah and Benedikt. He has a keen interest in family, gardening, and travel. He was once an avid beekeeper and fisherman .
