Alan Stephen Hopes
Alan Stephen Hopes (born March 17, 1944 in Oxford , Great Britain ) is Roman Catholic Bishop of East Anglia .
Life
He went to Oxford High School until 1956 when he went to London at Enfield Grammar School . In 1963 he began his training in theology at King's College London , graduating in 1966. After attending Warminster Theological College , he was ordained a priest of the Church of England in 1968 .
After his time as pastor in London and finally as canon of St Paul's Cathedral in London , he converted to the Roman Catholic faith in 1992, as did Graham Leonard . He was ordained a priest in the Catholic Church on December 4, 1995 after three years of theology studies and then worked as a parish chaplain in Our Lady of Victories in Kensington and in Holy Redeemer and St Thomas More Parish in Chelsea .
In 2001 he was appointed vicar general appointed the Archdiocese of Westminster, and in 2002 a member of the Committee of Christian life and liturgy of the Episcopal Conference . At the age of 58, Hopes was named Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster and Titular Bishop of Cunacestre on January 4, 2003 . The episcopal ordination received Hopes on 24 January 2003 in Westminster Cathedral by Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor ; Co- consecrators were the Coadjutor Bishop of Leeds , Arthur Roche , and the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton , Kieran Thomas Conry .
On January 13, 2011, he ordained former Anglican bishops Andrew Burnham , John Broadhurst and Keith Newton as Catholic deacons.
On June 11, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Hopes Bishop of East Anglia. The inauguration followed on July 16 of the same year.
On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .
