Bishops' Conference of England and Wales

The Bishops 'Conference of England and Wales ( English : Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales ) is a permanent assembly of the Catholic bishops of England and Wales . She is a member of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences . In addition to it, there are two other Bishops' Conferences in the Roman Catholic Church in the United Kingdom : the Scottish Bishops' Conference and the Irish Bishops' Conference , which includes the Republic of Ireland in addition to Northern Ireland .

Statutes

The statutes name the following tasks of the Bishops' Conference:

  • Maintaining unity and proclaiming the gospel to Catholics in England and Wales
  • Conducting the assemblies, working in the secretariat and the commissions of the Bishops' Conference
  • Mutual help and support in the work of the diocesan bishops
  • Promoting the cohesion of bishops and presenting the “testimony of God” to Christians and those of other faiths in England and Wales
  • Cultivating cooperation with the churches of other nations and contacts with the bishops of the universal church

Working methods

The bishops meet twice a year to work on the upcoming decisions for the national levels and to discuss them. As a rule, they meet for the week-long conferences at Easter and in autumn. The bishops lead the individual committees and delegate the tasks to the individual departments within the committees. The administration of the Bishops' Conference is ensured through financial subsidies from the dioceses .
