John Capgrave

John Capgrave (* 1396 in Norwich , Norfolk , † 1464 in King's Lynn , Norfolk) was an English historian , theologian and Augustinian monk during the Renaissance .

Life

Capgrave studied at Oxford and then joined the Augustinians . He wrote most of his work in the King's Lynn religious house. Capgrave wrote Bible commentaries and sermons, but was best known for his "Chronicle of England" , which he kept until 1417. The collection of saints ' biographies attributed to him , “Nova legenda Angliae” , was not exclusively Capgrave's work. It first appeared in 1516.
