John Conard

John Conard (born November 1773 in Chester Valley , Chester County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  May 9, 1857 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Conard attended Friends School and moved to Germantown around 1795 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. He also taught mathematics at a school in Germantown. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1812 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded James Milnor on March 4, 1813 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1814, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1815 . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, John Conard was an associate district judge. He then served as US Marshal for the eastern part of the state of Pennsylvania until 1831 . Around 1834 he moved to Cecil County , Maryland , where he lived until 1851. He spent his last years in Philadelphia; there he died on May 9, 1857.
