John Costelloe (actor)

John A. Costelloe (born November 8, 1961 in Brooklyn , New York , † December 18, 2008 there ) was an American actor .

Life

Costelloe was best known for his role as Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski, firefighter and gay secret lover of gangster Vito Spatafore (played by Joseph Gannascoli ) in the sixth and final season of the mafia television series The Sopranos . He had previously played supporting roles since the late 1980s, several times as a police officer, as well as the terrorist Oswald Cochrane in Die Hard 2 in 1990.

Prior to his acting career, Costelloe was a firefighter in the New York Fire Department for 11 years until he retired in 1998. His last film role was in the mystery drama Faith, alongside Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman . Shortly before his death, he played in the theater production Gang of Seven .

He died at the age of 47 from a gunshot wound he inflicted on himself, leaving behind his divorced wife and two children.
