Joseph R. Gannascoli (born February 15, 1959 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American actor .

Live and act

Joseph R. Gannascoli studied communications at St. John's University . After that he became a professional actor. As an actor, he has appeared in several films since the early 1990s . Gannascoli gained greater fame in his role as Vito Spatafore in the US television series The Sopranos . He played a member of the Mafia in this series who hides his homosexuality from his wife and family. In later episodes of the series, warring mafia members become aware of their sexual orientation and Vito Spatafore is murdered. After the end of the Sopranos he took part in several movies and episodes of various television series.

Joseph R. Gannascoli took part in the US television show Celebrity Fit Club in 2005 and lost over 32 pounds (around 10 percent) in body weight on that show. His weight loss was also incorporated into the sixth season of the television series The Sopranos . This season, Vito Spatafore is much thinner than in the previous episodes and pays attention to his diet.

On January 10, 2006, Gannascoli published the crime novel A Meal to Die For: A Culinary Novel of Crime .

Joseph R. Gannascoli has been married to Diana Benincasa since June 2005. They live on Long Island . Their daughter was born in June 2009.
