John Coward
John "Red" Coward (born October 28, 1910 in Ambleside , Cumbria , England , † 1989 in Fort Frances , Ontario , Canada ) was a British ice hockey player who, among other things, was Olympic champion in 1936 with his country.
Career
As a child, John Coward emigrated with his family to Fort Frances , Ontario , Canada , where he first played ice hockey. There he lived until his return to Great Britain in 1935, when he received a contract with the Richmond Hawks in the English National League , for which he was on the ice for the following two seasons, scoring ten points in the ENL. He then ended his short professional career and returned to Canada.
Because of his services to British ice hockey, Coward was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.
International
For Great Britain Coward took part in the 1937 World Championships and the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
