John DeWitt (athlete)
John DeWitt ( John Riegel DeWitt ; born October 29, 1881 in Phillipsburg , New Jersey , † July 28, 1930 in New York , NY ) was an American hammer thrower and football player.
He won the IC4A , the American university championships, in hammer throwing between 1901 and 1904 four times in a row and won the silver medal in this discipline at the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis.
As a football player played for the Princeton University team from 1901 to 1903 and was elected to the All American Football team in 1902 and 1903 . DeWitt was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954 .
