John Docherty (born October 30, 1997 in Inverness , Scotland ) is a Scottish professional boxer in the super middleweight division .

Amateur career

John Docherty lived in Montrose and trained at the Byron Boxing Club under coach Kevin Kerr. The southpaw was, among other things, Scottish youth welterweight champion in 2014 and Scottish youth middleweight champion in 2015. He was also quarter-finalist at the 2013 European Junior Championships in Russia and the 2014 European Youth Championships in Croatia , as well as the last 16 at the 2014 World Youth Championships in Bulgaria .

In 2015 he won the middleweight gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa and the middleweight silver medal at the European Youth Championships in Poland .

In the adult category, he was Scottish Middleweight Champion in 2016 and 2017 and also won the British Championships in 2017. He then took part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia , defeating Jean Alberte from Mauritius, Andreas Kokkinos from Cyprus and Benjamin Whittaker from England, before losing to Wilfried Ntsengue from Cameroon in the semi- finals and winning a bronze medal in the middleweight division.

Professional career

In July 2018, Docherty signed a professional contract with Matchroom Boxing under promoter Eddie Hearn and is trained in Essex by Tony Sims. He won his debut on October 13, 2018 by knocking out in the first round against Jordan Latimer (2-0).
