John Doerr (2013)

L. John Doerr (* 29. June 1951 in St. Louis ) is an influential American manager for risk capital in the California Silicon Valley -based private equity firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in Menlo Park . There he works with Al Gore and Colin Powell , among others .

life and work

Doerr holds a master's degree in electrical engineering and began his career at Intel in 1974, shortly after the company introduced the 8080 processor that made Intel a breakthrough.

He has been with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) since 1980 , of which he is now a partner. There he was responsible for the financing of companies such as Google , Compaq , Netscape , Symantec , Sun Microsystems , amazon.com , Friendster , Go.com and myCFO . KPCB was also responsible for funding America Online , Brio Technology , Electronic Arts , Flextronics , Genentech , Intuit , Lotus Development , LSI Logic , Macromedia , Quantum , Segway and Tandem , among others .

He is currently a member of the supervisory boards of Google and Amazon, among others, and was such a member of Sun Microsystems.

Thanks to the successful financing of leading technology companies, he was in the Midas List of Forbes magazine added, on which he took in 2008 place first

John Doerr is married and lives with his wife and two children in Woodside ( USA ). He is considered a supporter of the Democrats and is particularly committed to climate protection . In 2009 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
