Flex Ltd. (formerly known as Flextronics International Ltd. or just Flextronics ) is one of the world's leading providers of Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) with its headquarters in Singapore and another administrative center in San José , California .

The company has branches in 30 countries and produces as a contract manufacturer for numerous international electronics and hardware groups such as Hewlett Packard , Sony , Blackberry and Lenovo , primarily mobile phones and servers as well as medical , solar and aerospace technology . The CEO is Revathi Advaithi.

history

The company was founded in 1969 by Joe McKenzie in Silicon Valley and relocated to Singapore in 1990 as part of a leveraged takeover . Flex owns a large number of production facilities in low-wage countries such as China , mainly through the takeover of other companies such as the mainboard and computer manufacturer Iwill in Taiwan in mid-2006 or the US circuit board assembly company Solectron towards the end of 2007. In 2008, Flex bought the power supply manufacturer FMP ( Friwo Mobil Power), based in Ostbevern , from CEAG AG (today FRIWO AG ) and thus entered into the production of power supplies for the mobile phone manufacturer Nokia .

In July 2015 the company announced that it would shorten its company name and operate under "Flex" in the future.

The company's shares are traded on NASDAQ .

Flex's services range from product design to production and logistics to after sales service .

The company offers its customers the production of all electronic components. Thus, for Microsoft , the game console Xbox 360 produced for pharmaceutical company manufactures Flex among other ECG mobile phones, for another customer electric motorcycles . In China are photovoltaic modules produced and Austrian Althofen modules for a production line for photovoltaic systems .

Locations

As of 2018, the company had more than 100 locations in 30 countries. The focus is on low-wage countries such as Brazil , China , India , Malaysia , Mexico , Poland , Ukraine and Hungary .

In Germany, there is a development site for automotive in Filderstadt near Stuttgart.

In Austria there is a production site in Althofen ( Carinthia ). The location with around 700 employees is the leading company for medical technology within the group. Flex's European headquarters have also been there since September 17, 2013. There is also an administrative location at Vienna Airport. AGM Durmont Austria GmbH has a plant in Hartberg . AGM Durmont is a Flex subsidiary that produces tufted floor coverings and carpets for the footwells of automobiles.

In 2016, a server factory was built in the Hungarian city of Sárvár in cooperation with Lenovo .
