During his school days he played bass guitar in the group The Sunday Band in 1972/1973 and switched to the group Rococo in 1975. In 1976 he then appeared with The Spam Band and in 1977 and 1978 with the group Space . In the following years he played as a session musician with various well-known artists, including Peter Green (Ex- Fleetwood Mac ), the Climax Blues Band and Kevin Rowland's Dexys Midnight Runners .

In the backing band of Judie Tzuke , to which the later Status Quo drummer Jeff Rich belonged at the time, he was a permanent member in the early 1980s .

In 1986 he joined Status Quo , for which he has been playing bass for over 30 years. Until a few years ago he also performed with other musicians he was friends with, initially under the name "Four Bills and a Ben", later as Rhino's Revenge . From around 2005 his activities outside of Status Quo shifted temporarily to the group Woodedz , in which he plays together with his two sons. In 2000 and 2015 Rhino's Revenge released one CD each.

While at Status Quo he had more of the character of a guest musician in the first few years, he has been shaping the band's musical style for some time and wrote several pieces for the band. The bass is his main instrument, but he occasionally also plays the guitar (solo and with Status Quo). He also learned to play the violin at a young age. He's also the vocalist on Rhino's Revenge and occasionally Status Quo.

Private life

The Bludgeon, as his friends call him, lives in London with his wife Kathy and their three children Mae, Freddie and Max . His nickname "Rhino" refers equally to his pronounced nose and clumsiness. When he's on tour with Status Quo , he likes to see sights. On the Status Quo homepage , he regularly reports on his experiences on tour.

Edward's son Freddie is also a guitarist and in 2016 represented the sick Rick Parfitt at some live performances in the summer and autumn.
