John Ekels (born December 2, 1940 in Jakarta , Dutch East Indies ) is a former Canadian sailor .

successes

John Ekels, who was a member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club , took part in the Soling boat class at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Together with Paul Côté , he was a crew member of skipper David Miller and won the bronze medal with them when they won the regatta at the Schilksee Olympic Center in Kiel , thanks to 47.1 points behind the American boat led by Harry Melges and the Swedish boat led by Stig Wennerström finished in third place. A year later they won the North American championships together before the crew split up after Miller's career ended.

In 1989, like Miller and Côté, he was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame .
