John Herbert Elliot (born July 4, 1918 in Reading , England , † August 24, 1997 in Clifton , England) was a British writer , screenwriter and television producer .

biography

Between 1954 and 1960 he wrote a number of successful television pieces, including War in the Air and A Man from the Sun . The latter is pioneering work aimed at a West Indian audience. In 1961 he wrote another groundbreaking television series with astronomer Fred Hoyle (to ensure scientific authenticity). A science fiction series that set the tone for everything that followed. The success of A For Andromeda led to a sequel in The Andromeda Breakthrough in 1962 .

After Andromeda , Elliot wrote more episodes, but his talents may not have been appreciated by the BBC . He left the company in 1963, but offered as a parting gift an option for his concept for the drama series Mogul (renamed The Troubleshooters from the second season), for which he wrote much of the seven seasons.

His other works include series such as Fall of Eagles and Survival, as well as novels such as Duell , Blood Upon the Snow , A For Andromeda and The Andromeda Breakthrough (also co-written with Fred Hoyle).
