John Evans, Baron Evans of Parkside

John Evans, Baron Evans of Parkside (* 19th October 1930 ; † 5. March 2016 ) was a British politician of the Labor Party .

Life

John Evans attended Jarvis Central School in Tyne and Wear . After graduating from school, he worked as a naval fitter from 1946 to 1952 . He then got a job as an engineer with the merchant navy and got involved in the union . From 1962 to 1974 he was a member of the Urban District in Hebburn , most recently as chairman for two years. He was then in the British general election in 1974 deputy of the Labor Party in the constituency Newton ( Lancashire ). From 1976 to 1978 he was also a member of the European Parliament . In 1983 he became an MP for the constituency of St Helens North until he was defeated by David Watts in 1997 .

On April 19, 1997, he was named a Life Peer with the title Baron Evans of Parkside of St. Helens in the County of Merseyside , becoming a member of the House of Lords . On April 20, 2015, he voluntarily resigned from his seat in the House of Lords under the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 .

Since 1959 he was married to Joan Slater. This marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter.
