John Gavin Nolan

John Gavin Nolan (born March 15, 1924 in Mechanicville , Saratoga County , New York (state) , † November 19, 1997 in Bronx , New York City ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the US military ordinariate .

Nolan was ordained a priest on June 11, 1949. From 1962 to 1987, Nolan was Secretary General of the Catholic Near Eastern Welfare Association (CNEWA) and President of the Pontifical Mission for Palestine.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Natchesium in 1987 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the US military ordinariate. The episcopal ordination on January 6, 1988 was donated to him by Pope John Paul II himself; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Eduardo Martínez Somalo and Giovanni Battista Re .

In 1967 he became the first Catholic, by the Patriarch of Constantinople Opel I. Athenagoras , with the Gold Cross of the Council of Rhodes excellent. He was Grand Cross Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and Honorary Canon of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . He belonged to the Order of Malta .
