John Gelder Horler Halstead , since 1996: CC , (born January 27, 1922 in Vancouver , † 1998 ) was a Canadian diplomat .

Life

John Gelder Horler Halstead's parents were Joan Minnie Williams Horler and Frank Henry Halstead. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor's degree in modern languages ​​in 1943 . He became the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve . He was stationed as a lieutenant in Naval Intelligence in Canada, England and Germany . In 1946 he was accepted into the foreign service by the Canadian Foreign Ministry. From 1947 to 1950 he studied economic history at the London School of Economics and Political Science , graduating with a Bachelor of Science . In 1953 he married Jean McAllister. Their children were Ian and Christopher. From 1952 to 1955 Halstead was in the State Department in Ottawa in the NATO department . John Gelder Horler Halstead was accredited in London from 1948 to 1950 . From 1961 to 1966 he was deputy head of the mission in Paris . He was accredited in Tokyo and the Canadian Government Missions to the United Nations in New York City and Paris. From 1966, John Gelder Horler Halstead headed the European Department in the Canadian Foreign Ministry.

In 1982 Halstead was retired. John Gelder Horler Halstead was an honorary doctor from the University of Augsburg .
