John Grinder

John Grinder (born January 10, 1940 or 1939 in the United States ) is an American English and linguist and co-developer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Life

Grinder studied English and worked on Noam Chomsky's Generative Transformation Grammar . As a professor at the University of California in Santa Cruz , he met Richard Bandler , who was studying psychology there . Bandler, who was leading a gestalt therapy group at the time , asked Grinder to attend as an observer. Later both of them swapped the roles of observer and group leader. Together they began to research communication - and above all non-verbal - in psychotherapy . Starting in 1974 , both of them modeled their own therapeutically intended concept, which processed the approaches of Fritz Perls , Virginia Satir , Milton Erickson and (later) Gregory Bateson .

In The Structure of Magic (2 vols., 1975f.) And Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson (2 vols., 1975 and 1977), Erickson's findings on hypnotherapy in particular were adapted. With these and the following books, Grinder and Bandler founded neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), to the creation and development of which they contributed various publications from then on.
