John Guthrie Brown

John Guthrie Brown (* 1892 in Uddingston ; † January 1, 1976 ) was a British civil engineer.

Brown studied at the Royal Technical College in Glasgow . He was a senior partner in the engineering office of Alexander Gibb and dealt with the construction of hydropower plants and their monitoring, where he worked worldwide.

He was a CBE and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers .

In 1964 he received the gold medal of the Institution of Structural Engineers , of which he was president in 1956/57.

He was the first British President of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).
