Sir Henry , actually John Henry Nijenhuis , (born October 8, 1964 in Montréal ) is a Canadian musician, musical director and composer. Since 1996 he has been working at the Berliner Volksbühne .

Life

John Henry Nijenhuis was born in Canada in 1964 to a Dutch immigrant family. At the age of seven he first received classical piano training. At King's College in Halifax , he studied occidental philosophy, theology, history and art, then journalism for two years, then worked as a musician in Canada for thirteen years.

In 1996 Nijenhuis was invited to play at the “Sonambiente” festival in Berlin.

After the festival he received a guest contract at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz as a musician and composer for the Prater production Ums nackte Leben and from now on worked regularly with Frank Castorf (including demons , humiliated and insulted , Der Idiot , Nord ), Dimiter Gotscheff ( Tartuffe , Iwanow , UBUKÖNIG , Leonce and Lena , Prometheus ), and David Marton ( Wozzeck , Lulu ).

In addition to theater productions, Sir Henry also composed soundtracks for several short films, including a.
