Þorleifur Örn Arnarsson , German transcription Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson , (born July 15, 1978 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic opera and theater director .

Life

Þorleifur Örn Arnarsson is the son of the Icelandic actor couple Arnar Jónsson and Þórhildur Þorleifsdóttir , and one of his siblings is the actress Sólveig Arnarsdóttir, who is also known in Germany . He first studied acting at the Iceland Art Academy . He then worked as a director at various theaters in Iceland, Helsinki and Sydney.

He studied directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin . His piece (together with Andri Snær Magnason ) Image - Eternal Bliss was premiered in Iceland in 2007 and has received numerous awards.

In 2007 he performed this production at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin . He directed, among others, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Elfriede Jelinek's Contracts of the Merchant at the Theater St. Gallen , Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Bertolt Brecht's mother Courage and William Shakespeare's Lear at the Theater Konstanz, and Michail Bulgakow's Der Meister and Margarita at State Theater Tübingen.

He directed Die Fledermaus at the Augsburg Theater and Lohengrin in 2014 . His directorial work with Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt won the 2011 Nachtkritik-Theatertreffen. He also works as a lecturer, including for an acting directing class in Toronto, Canada.

In the 2014/15 season, Þorleifur Örn Arnarsson was hired as the lead director for opera and drama at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden .

Since the 2019/20 season he has been acting director at the Volksbühne Berlin .
