John Henry and the Inky-Poo is an American stop-motion animated short film directed by George Pal from 1946.

action

On a stormy and rainy night, John Henry is born. Shortly after he was born, he is larger than a man and packed with muscles. When he first saw a railroad, he knew that he wanted to be involved in building the rails. With the Inky-Poo machine, however, the workers get competition, because Inky-Poo can not only do the work of ten rail builders, but also work faster and more regularly. The workers fear for their jobs and John Henry suggests a competition: man against machine.

The competition begins a little later. John Henry and Inky-Poo have to work the rails of a prescribed distance. Although John Henry's mother is horrified, the competition will cost all of John Henry's strength, if he is not to be changed. The competition begins and although John Henry is behind at the beginning, he catches up and wins against the Inky-Poo machine. However, shortly afterwards he collapses dead at the finish and is buried a little later. The narrator states that John Henry lives on in people's hearts, having proven that a person's strength can replace that of a machine, if only a person wants it.
